After kids, you envision sharing the world with your babies only to find yourself on an airplane trying to nurse discreetly next to some perv. You have to balance the fun of travel with trying to entertain your kiddos, find food they will eat, places to stay that have room-darkening curtains, and so much more.
It's so daunting that it's easy to say, "We can't travel, we have children."
But you can, and you should.
Travel makes our giant world digestible. You find commonality in the oddest of places, learn to appreciate the vast differences in religion and culture. It not only opens your children's eyes but yours as well.
As a military family, we move pretty often. Most recently, twice in a year! This last move brought us to Cairo, Egypt which opened up a whole new part of the world to us. It's my fourth continent! Since moving here, we have been able to visit Upper Egypt (which is actually in the South of Egypt, go figure), Dubai and Abu Dhabi, Northern Italy, Germany, Tuscany and Rome, and we are planning another trip for Spring Break.
We aren't millionaires. We don't have a bunch of extra money. What we do have is a thirst for travel. A desire to show our kids the world. So we make travel a priority.

What I can assure you though is that it only gets better. Just like taking your kids out to eat, the more you do it, the easier it is. We've actually gotten to the point where I feel very little anxiety taking our kids on 8 hour flights. They are better at entertaining themselves, and are generally content with an iPad and the in-flight entertainment. At five and seven, we can take them pretty much anywhere and it's mostly due to practice. They know we will go somewhere worth the travel.
I'm not saying they are perfect. They still fight in the car, they are still picky eaters, and drive us crazy sometimes, but for the most part they are banner travelers.
